Valentine’s Day is a day where love is celebrated, but can be also a painful day to many.
For those of you who are single for whatever reasons whether due to death, never been married, divorced or have just had your hearts broken, you may not feel like stepping out in the streets. With love plastered all over as merchants want to make the most out of this day. For teenagers who are not dating or sexually active, they may feel taunted by those who are, for not having started dating yet.
For you who are single, you can enjoy the life of being single as it has its advantages. Every social status has its advantages and disadvantages. Those who are in a relationship want to come out and those who are not in a relationship can’t wait to get into one. All in all, we need to find joy wherever we are and in whatever social status we are in. Joy does not come from someone or something but it’s a state of being. Here are three tips to enjoy this Valentine’s Day or go through it unscathed.
• Enjoy God’s unconditional love
Valentine’s Day is about love and giving up ourselves for others; but there’s one man who showed us the ultimate love; Jesus. He did not demonstrate His love to us when we were good and loving but when we were rebellious and unlovable. You know it’s easy to give the perfect gift to those who are always considerate towards us and who showers us with their love, but it’s another thing to give a perfect gift to one who could care less. This is what Jesus did; while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us Romans 5:8. God loves you as you are, and for who you are; unconditionally.
• Give love to others
There are many people around us that are deprived of love. Sometimes the only way to fill our emptiness is by filling someone else’s emptiness. Give love to those who need it. Whether it’s volunteering at an elderly home or a shelter to the less fortunate, it will not only brighten someone’s day but fill your heart with warmth.
• Love yourself
I know it may sound selfish, but love yourself first. Pamper yourself and do something that will bring you pleasure. In Mark 12:31 it says; ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’. You cannot love others if you don’t love yourself first, as you are required to love them as you love yourself. One of the perks of being in a relationship is that you can’t just do whatever you want without consulting with your spouse. If you are single this Valentine’s Dayenjoy this opportunity and count it as a blessing instead of a setback.

I could not agree more on the paragraphe love yourself first. This is where it all starts. How can you love someone else if you have not learn to love, respect and consider yourself first.
You are right Helene. Most of the times people think that they are being modest by looking down upon themselves when in reality it is not only damaging but also hinders them from having healthy relationships with others
