There’s a friend of mine whom whenever we visit her family she just has a way of making you feel really at home. My family and I always look forward to visiting her family because we know in advance; we are going to have a good time, not to mention good food to. My family and I have been to homes where you just feel awkward. The host family is not as welcoming and you just can’t wait to get out of there.

During the holidays it is a tine where most families receive and are being received. It is very important to teach our children hospitality and make it one of your family virtues. Holiday season is the perfect opportunity to practise this. From teaching your young ones to sharing their toys with their young visitors, to your teen giving up his room for a couple of days to your guests or putting their electronic devices away to have a conversation with their guests; these are a few practical examples of hospitality.

Someone in the Bible who was very hospitable was Abraham. In Genesis 18 Abraham received three visitors and treated them extra special making sure they were well fed and rested. Abraham did this not knowing these visitors were angels, who later confirmed the promise that he would bare a son even though he was well advanced age and so was his wife Sarah.

Many people will be celebrating Christmas alone this year. How about inviting someone who you know doesn’t have anywhere or anybody to celebrate with. As we invite friend and family in our homes, we should not forget the most important guest who is the reason for this celebration; Jesus Christ; who came to earth in the human form so that he can save us from sins. If we celebrate without Him it is like going to a birthday and celebrating without the birthday person being present.

During this magical season exercise hospitality and who knows you might end up receiving angels as guests in your home.

Merry Christmas everyone!
