Living a virtuous life in the 21st century may seem to be outdated. In a world that is constantly shaping and defining women, one can easily feel lost. However, virtuous living, which means having high moral standards is possible.

In Proverbs 31:10-31, we find this virtuous woman who is praised not for being sexy or for her outward looks, but for her character. She is rare, that is why there’s the question of who can find a virtuous wife. She is okay with standing out and not following the trends. It’s refreshing to see that the first person who sings her praises is her husband; someone who knows her very well.

Here are the characteristics of this virtuous woman that we can inspire ourselves from:

Hardworking

She is industrious. We see her managing different areas of her family. Working diligently with her hands to provide for her family and her maidservants. This woman is not lazy, as we see her busy with activities for her household. We don’t see her in other people’s business but focuses on what concerns her.

Economic

She knows a good deal when she sees one. She not only buys land but looks for ways to make it fruitful and profitable. Virtuous living is also in how we manage our finances. Are we ones who accumulate debts through impulsive buying or do we buy assets that generate ongoing income? The financial health of the family often depends on the woman’s management of the finances.

Kindness

When most people just want to heap more and more, this virtuous woman is kind and shares with the needy and the poor. Wealth is more enriching when it can be shared with those in need. They say money is a good slave but a bad master. How is your attitude in terms of money? Do you want more and more or are you able to easily share it with others?

Respectful

This woman carries herself respectfully and gives a good name to her husband. In all aspects she is respectful; in how she dresses, how she deals in business and even with her children. It is sad sometimes to see how some women would be kind to people outside their household but treat their spouses and children with harshness and hostility. Charity begins at home. We see these children sing their mom’s praise. What would your children say of you if they could do it without consequences?

Her Secret

I’m sure all of us are wondering, how is this possible for this woman to be cool, calm and collected all the time! Most of us would need almost 5 assistants to accomplish what she does. Her secret is her relationship with God which gives her wisdom and guidance in all other areas of her life. It affects her lifestyle as she walks according to the Word of God the consequence is that of a virtuous life. She doesn’t work to be virtuous, she works on her relationship with God and He enables her to live a virtuous life.

We are God’s project in the making and when we walk according to His way, people will see the transformation, starting with our close family members. We may not have all the attributes of this virtuous woman, myself included, but, if we strive to align our lives according to God’s word, we shall bear fruits of virtuous living.
