Sometimes I can be like a fly on the wall easily distracted from one thing to another, thus getting off course of what I was doing.

When at home I would be cleaning my bedroom and just taking a pile of laundry to the laundry room gets me into starting the laundry and cleaning other areas, forgetting that I wasn’t done with my initial task. It just happened while I was writing this article. I remembered I had some urgent banking I needed to do, so I stopped my article and did that, but went on to check my e-mails, and I had to call back myself to order. It is important to stay focused; and one of the things that help in doing that, is having your priorities written down and right in front of you. Instead of going through the motions of your day be intentional in everything you do, this will help you stay focused.

Not being able to stay on track in what we are doing, can result in a feeling of desperation and being overwhelmed as we get nothing accomplished. You end up having a lot of unfinished projects and on the big scheme of things; this can affect even your destiny. We know of a lot of people myself included who have dreams that were half pursued. The books that were never published the unsung songs, or dreams that were never realised. The Bible reminds us the importance of discipline and staying focused in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27   Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Paul addresses the importance of staying on track and likens it to the life of an athlete; having your eyes set on the prize and being disciplined. My son does track and when he runs, his eyes are set on the finishing line and nothing can distract him until he crosses it. Paul warns us the dangers of being entangled in other things and missing out on the prize: which is living our lives right with God and in the end enjoying eternity with him.

As we practice daily, being disciplined on the little things, it will armour us to focus on God as He helps us navigate the big issues of life. I hear that in sailing and flying a few degrees off course can land you in a total different destination. Identify what easily steers you off course and nab it before it is too late; your destiny depends on it.
