My daughter had never heard this saying before and thought it meant that it’s a good thing if life threw her lemons as she loves lemonade. But you see she hates bananas, so I had to explain to her it as if life threw bananas at her, she could make banana bread because she loves it. I told her it’s like whatever fruit will be thrown at you can still make a delicious dessert with it. She finally got it. Whatever hardship or troubles life throws at you, you can make something good out of it; after all the most beautiful roses are set around thorns.

Life throws us curves, and it’s not always easy to see some positives out of a bleak situation. There is a story in the Bible of Joseph whereby he was sold as a slave by his brothers out of jealousy because he was their father’s favorite. The turn of events in Joseph’s life is such that he ends up being second in command to Pharaoh himself the king of Egypt. This is what caught my eye in this story in Genesis 50:20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Joseph was able to rise above the evil that his brothers intended for him and see the good that God wanted to accomplish. Sometimes the lemonade may not be instant, as it will take plenty of lemons coming your way, but one thing is for sure, if you look carefully at how things are unfolding in that miry situation, you will see some positives along the way.

Maybe there are lots of bananas being thrown your way at the moment; if you are a monkey you are having a blast, but if you are like my daughter, you are feeling yucky not only because you hate the taste of bananas, but you have to deal with its peelings on your path that make you trip and fall every step of the way. It is time to pull out your recipe book and turn around the situation by making the most delicious banana bread.
