How does one go about living a purpose driven life? As the New Year slowly unfolds from days to months, the words of the late Dr. Myles Munroe who I count among the greatest men who ever lived, echo in my mind; “You should not desire to die old but rather empty”. These profound words he spoke shortly before his sudden death in a plane crash. He explained that we should empty ourselves of everything that God has deposited in our lives in terms of gifts, talents and let nothing go wasted in the grave. While many desire to live long, it is best to live according to the purpose you were created for. Living a purpose driven life will enforce you to be intentional in everything you do. You will see your actions suddenly becoming goal driven, instead of just going through the motions of life, waiting for whatever life will throw at you.
I hear people say I am just waiting to see what this New Year will bring. We should change our mentality and position ourselves in a way that we will be intentional in our actions to realize what we desire in the year 2018. Like a farmer, we have to prepare the land for the rain and not wait until the rain comes to do so. Try tilling a muddy land; it’s not fun and it is very laborious.
Proverbs 18:16 it says “A man’s gifts/talents makes room for him, and bring him before great men”. You are born with a purpose in life, and you will be able to fully accomplish it, through the God-given talents or gifts in you. Do not limit yourself to what you can and cannot do. We should make sure that we are not robbing those around us of the service they could benefit from what God has deposited in us. What do you enjoy doing effortlessly? Do it to excellence as this may be the very purpose of your life. These same gifts are what will take you before great men. We see that many employers will look to hire you based on your competencies and skills. Great artists, authors, and athletes are able to have influence and stand among the great because of they are using the talents or gifts in them. No matter how small or great your talent or gift may seem to your eyes, put it to use and make sure you die having emptied yourself completely of it.
