Some people have resolved to never make New Year’s resolutions simply because they never live up to any of them. The question is, is it worth the trouble? Why give oneself that unnecessary burden knowing well enough you will not live up to it. Maybe the problem is not the making of the resolutions but the discipline in maintaining them. What motivates us to make the goals we make? Is it because everyone makes resolutions or is it because they resound personally with what we want to accomplish?

I believe that it’s important to make resolutions as they give us direction in the areas of our activities and projects. Resolutions keep us in check when it comes to achieving our goals. If you aim at nothing you will hit it. I believe one is better off making resolutions and not attaining them, than not making them at all, as unaccomplished goals will help us learn from our mistakes and better position us for the future. Below are tips to help you, as you figure out your resolutions for this year:

  1. Make sure the list is not long. Choose only the top 3 of what you would like to accomplish this year, preferably with one each in three areas of your life (whether financial, spiritual, health, professional or social).
  2. Even though its good to plan, don’t waste too much time with planning than executing the plan; Just do it!
  3. Put checkpoints along the way to ensure you are staying on track

In Proverbs 16:3 it says:“Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will succeed”.  In everything we do we should commit them to God as He will enable and give us success in our projects. I have had to tackle huge goals in my life that in the beginning seemed intimidating, but when I committed them in God’s hands suddenly they seemed feasible and I had a flow of ideas on how to bring them to reality. Please note that you don’t dump your plans in God and sit back. You are still responsible for executing, God only empowers you to achieve your dreams.

I wish you success in 2018 in all your endeavors. Dream bold and don’t choose to play it safe. You will surprise yourself the potential you have to achieve greatness!
