The holiday season has just begun. For many, it’s a magical season where every wish comes true, but for others, they are just bracing themselves waiting for it to be over. I myself agree that Christmas has been commercialized and stripped of all its meaning.
I can imagine it was the same during the birth of Jesus. There was a major event that left all the hotels fully booked with zero vacancies; leaving the King of kings to be born in a manger. If we could back track this story we find that Joseph a good man, is about to have his life altered eternally. He finds out his fiancee is pregnant, and its not his baby. His love for Mary leads him to plan to leave her in a discreet way so as not to shame her, even though he had all the reasons to. We see the love of Joseph being challenged but coming out victorious as he allows God’s plan to play out in his life. Joseph’s sacrificial love put his needs aside and accepted this great mission God had for him; to father the Son of God.
We see God’s love for humanity perfected in that He stoops low to the point of becoming man, His very own creation so that He can save it. Jesus laid aside His glory, His throne and His very best in order to save mankind. Our gifts for family and friends are a fraction of the expression of God’s ultimate love. Love is perfected at Christmas as this was the ultimate sacrifice. No gift you will receive this Christmas no matter how great it is, will come even close to God’s gift to mankind: Jesus Christ. My prayer for you this Christmas is that in all the bustling and hassling, that you may find Jesus. After all He is the reason for the season. May He be the star on your Christmas tree. Merry Christmas everyone!!
