Whether it’s from kindergarten, elementary school, high school or university, graduation always comes with mixed emotions for both the graduate and the parents. It is the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one.
I remember vividly as if it was yesterday, sitting in the little chairs at our son’s daycare for his kindergarten school graduation. He walked in, dressed in a construction paper made graduation cap and his father’s shirt worn backward to act as a gown. He was beaming in pride feeling he had grown into a big boy.
Fast forward, I can’t believe last two years he graduated from high school along with his youngest sister who graduated from elementary school. Where did time go? And this year I’m again sitting teary-eyed in a full auditorium for his little sister as she graduates from high school. This may be the feeling of most parents especially mothers as they enter a new phase of life. With their children moving to adulthood and others leaving home to pursue their studies away from home. We are proud of the accomplishments of our children, yet at the same time scared to release them into the world. whether it’s from elementary school going to high school or from high school going to college or university. We need to impact confidence in the lives of our children even when we might not have it in us.
In the Bible Proverbs 18:16 says; “a man’s gifts or talents makes room for him and brings him before great men”. As the primary fans of our children’s success, let’s celebrate their milestones as they slowly unfold their potential. The talents, gifts, and knowledge in them will pave for them their success. They will soon be leading in whatever area of their passion; whether it’s being an athlete, actor/actress, politician, writer, doctor..etc. God has blessed each of our children with various gifts, of which when fully tapped into and exploited, will help them become their very best. I encourage mothers to not be lost in the fear of the unknown, but rather be excited to discover this new adventure alongside their children.
